Happy International Women’s Day!

Happy International Women’s day! The best day of the year, even better than Christmas actually, don’t you think?  I’ve been celebrating it since I was little, in Serbian culture March 8th is a day when men shower the wonderful ladies in their lives with love and gifts (seriously).

I really wanted to write an intellectual post about the significance of this day and why I think it’s become so relevant and important globally in the last 2-3 years. BUT it’s midnight and I’m absolutely shattered from this week already so I thought I’d put together a fun and lighthearted list of why I love being a woman so much. I hope you can relate to it and I hope you love it!

I love the female friendships I have and will continue to form.

One of the key things I’ve learned since discovering feminism is the importance of female friendship. There were so many times in my teenage years where I would bitch and gossip about a girl and it was the complete norm. There’s always been so much jealousy between women, even if they’re your best friend, and a lot of it is related to gaining validation from men – like a game of who can get the most attention. Since I’ve abolished girl on girl hate from my life I’ve formed some beautiful, special and new female friendships and strengthened older ones. I honestly don’t know what I would do without them.

I love Grrrl Power.

I love the new wave of girl power. I love how women are sticking together, I love how men are sticking up for women. It makes me feel liberated and excited for the future generation of girls who are going to straight up rule the world.

I love that one day I could grow a tiny human inside me.

The female body is pure magic. I can actually grow a little person inside of me for nine months, give them life and push them into the world. It’s so special, precious and I’m so grateful for it. My best friend is a midwife and the beautiful (and sometimes gory) stories she shares with me just leave me in awe with how much one woman’s body can go through. It requires so much strength.

I love being simultaneously gentle but also strong AF.

Women have this wonderful ability to be soft, nurturing and loving when they need to be but they can also be as hard as nails. The trick is knowing when it’s the right time to be either or – I’m still figuring that out.

I love being a Girl Boss.

Our world is bursting with incredible female leaders but unfortunately not all of them are given the opportunity to lead. Relting back to the point above, I think its a key reason as to why women make brilliant leaders. And a word of advise: no matter who you are, what your job role is or where you work, treat yourself like a Girl Boss, live like a Girl Boss, walk into a room and own it.

I love having a vagina.

The female body is so complex and it’s a insanely beautiful thing to be able to discover how it works and your different levels of pleasure as you get older and wiser. Yes, periods suck, the pink tax sucks and so does having to take contraception that messes with your mind and body but for me the positives outweigh the negatives. Even though they might not happen as frequently, our orgasms are THE BEST (they can last for days you know?), vagina’s are self-cleaning AND they look like cute flowers. I’m happy with one.

(Just to add: I understand that not all women have vagina’s and that some men do, but it’s just something that I love about my body in particular ♥)

What’s your favourite thing about women or what do you love about being a woman?
